Information about DFDS BAF Model – MED

Due to the recent increases in our BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor) surcharges, driven by rising marine fuel prices and ongoing geopolitical developments, we would like to provide you a transparent overview of our BAF model with further information and principles.

The current MED BAF model was introduced on 1 January 2020, following the MARPOL regulation stipulating a maximum sulphur content of 0.5%.

BAF levels for the MED region are adjusted monthly based on the 0.1% CIF MED marine oil price development, measured from the 20th of one month to the 20th of the next.

As you know, MED BAF levels vary from route to route due to the specifics of each route.

In the link below you will find more material and the bunker price development (0.1% CIF MED) for the period November 2022–2026.

This communication is intended solely to inform and support your understanding of the current developments.

Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please contact your local DFDS representative.

Best regards,
BU Mediterranean
