Welcome to Shipping's new Business Unit Mediterranean
Peder Gellert
With the acquisition of U.N. Ro-Ro, we are adding a new strong Business Unit Mediterranean (BU Med) to the Shipping Division, which will in the future consist of BU Med, BU Channel, BU North Sea North, BU North Sea South, BU Baltic and BU Group Passenger.
BU Med will be responsible for our route network in the Mediterranean Sea. This includes U.N. Ro-Ro’s five routes between Turkey and the EU via the ports in Italy, Greece and France – as shown on the route map above, and also the DFDS route between Marseille and Tunis and agency in Marseille.
BU Med will be managed from Turkey, where U.N. Ro-Ro was founded in1994 and has grown into a very strong business. It will be managed by Senior Vice President Selçuk Boztepe, who will report to me.
Today, U.N. Ro-Ro operates 12 ro-ro vessels and the Pendik Terminal in Istanbul, as well as the Trieste Terminal in Italy. From here, there are excellent rail and road connections further into the EU. The company employs 522 people in Turkey and 107 people in Trieste – and they will all continue in their current positions. “By becoming part of DFDS, we are really looking forward to being part of a big family with a long history in the maritime industry. I am confident that our shared experience and know-how will contribute to the further growth of DFDS and add value for all stakeholders. We are eager to start working in close cooperation with our new colleagues to further enhance DFDS’ position as one of the leading shipping and logistics companies globally,” says Selçuk Boztepe.
With this new strong BU, DFDS is back in the Mediterranean, where we until now have been represented by the Marseille – Tunis route only. And most importantly, the new BU will be a strong foothold in Turkey, which is a very dynamic growth region. It has a thriving business sector and growing trade with the EU.
I welcome our new Turkish colleagues to the Shipping Division and very much look forward to getting to know U.N. Ro-Ro and our new colleagues even better and combining the capacities, fleets and, not least, people and their skills with those of our other colleagues in the Shipping Division.
Emil Hausgaard from DFDS’ Transformation Office will move to Turkey and take on the role as Integration Coordinator to ensure that the integration process is supported as much as needed.
Now we have started the integration and I am confident you will all support me in giving our new colleagues the warmest of welcomes to the Shipping Division and DFDS.
