MERSİN – EGYPT – SAUDI ARABIA RO-RO SERVICE

U.N. Ro-Ro İşletmeleri A.Ş. and Salem Al Makrani Shipping Company (SAMC) have partnered to start Mersin – Egypt – Saudi Arabia Ro-Ro service with UND ATILIM departing from Mersin on June 7th, 2013 Friday.

 

U.N. Ro-Ro’s strong ties with international transport companies, strong infrastructure and experience since 1994 has been a significant contributor in establishing this new scheduled service to Northern Africa.  

 

Our new line will increase Turkey and Egypt’s international trade volume and also increase exporters’ and international transport companies’ competitiveness in the market. The line will also serve exporters that transport transit goods via Egypt to other countries. More specifically, the closure of Syrian land route has made transportation of goods to Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries more difficult and our scheduled Ro-Ro service which provides a high quality service along with competitive prices will make this line successful.

 

Our vessel UND ATILIM has a capacity of 176 complete units and the sailings between Mersin and Damietta will take approximately 20 hours. Departures from Mersin to Damietta will be on Tuesday and Friday evenings, and Departures from Damietta to Mersin will be on Thursday and Sunday evenings.  

 

The drivers will be transported by U.N. Ro-Ro via THY’s Adana- Alexandria Borg El Arab charter flights. Boeing 737-700 aircrafts with a capacity of 149 seats will be used for these flights. Flights from Adana will be on Thursdays (Wednesday after midnight) and Sundays (Saturday after midnight) at 01:10 and the return flights will be on Fridays (Thursday after midnight) and Mondays (Sunday after midnight) at 02:55. Shuttle service from Alexandria Borg El Arab airport to Port of Damietta will be organized by U.N. Ro-Ro’s agency Worms. Drivers will have to obtain their own visas.

 

UND ATILIM has a capacity of 12 drivers and only the drivers of rerfigerated vehicles will have the priority to travel on board the vessel. Also, there will be two electrician officers to check the refrigerated units on board at all times. It is important that the drivers declare that their units are refrigerated at Mersin and Damietta Ports.

 

The convoy will be provided by Polaris Marine Services, who is currently offering this service. The current convoy prices are 100 $ paid in cash for vehicles arriving from Turkey and 100 $ if the vehicle is returning empty or 350 $ if the vehicle is returning loaded also paid in cash. The fees will be paid cash to Polaris directly by the customers. The convoy fees are not included in the freight charged by U.N. Ro-Ro.

 

SAMC will be running the ro-ro service from Adabiya (Egypt) to Duba (Saudi Arabia) with their vessels Rüzgar and Salmi 6. Rüzgar has a capacity of 115 complete units whereas Salmi 6 has a capacity of 85 complete units. These vessels will provide continuous service between Egypt and Saudi Arabia and will not leave any vehicles waiting at the ports.

 

The freight rates for June 2013 are as follows:

 

 

Customers that purchase roundtrip tickets to Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries will be eligible for government incentive of 500 $ if they are Turkish plated and are registered as “tractor+semi-trailer” on their vehicle registration papers. To be eligible for the incentive, these vehicles should return to Turkey before August 14, 2013 and the plates of the tractor and the semi-trailer should be the same. The applicable freight rate will be 3000 $ for these units. For trucks returning after 14 August 2013, the 500 $ subsidy will not be applicable and this discount will be cancelled for them.

 

U.N. Ro-Ro will accept return tickets issued by SAMC for the Damietta-Mersin line from the customers that have purchased a round trip ticket from SAMC line during their previous operation.

 

500 $ fee that will be paid to Egyptian government for convoy taxes will be paid by U.N. Ro-Ro and is included in the freight charged by U.N. Ro-Ro.

 

Freight payments should be made to U.N. Ro-Ro’s agency in Mersin in cash or can be transferred to U.N. Ro-Ro’s bank accounts via wire transfer. Bank receipts must be presented to U.N. Ro-Ro’s agency in Mersin, Catoni, for the units to be loaded to the vessel.
