DFDS' Newest Vessel Is at Turkey's Service

As U. N. Ro-Ro, the largest Ro-Ro company in Turkey, starts its brand transformation to become part of the European shipping and logistics giant DFDS, DFDS has brought another mega freight ferry to Turkey.

Named after the ancient city of Troy during the naming ceremony held at the DFDS Pendik Port, the 237-meter-long magnificent “Troy Seaways” will make its maiden voyage from Turkish territorial waters to Europe on June 22, 2019.

AS the Danish shipping and logistics giant DFDS furthers its strong investments in Turkey, U. N. Ro-Ro, which is the largest ro-ro company in Turkey operating in intermodal transport, has already started its transformation into DFDS.

DFDS’ new vessel, which is equal in size to the 237-meter-long “Ephesus Seaways” (the largest mega freight ferry  in the Mediterranean) brought to Turkey by DFDS last March, was put into service with the naming ceremony hosted by Peder Gellert Pedersen, Executive Vice President of DFDS’ Shipping Division, and Selçuk Boztepe, Senior Vice President of DFDS’ Mediterranean Business Unit. At the naming ceremony, which was held at the DFDS Pendik Port with the participation of Mars Lojistik A.Ş. Chairman Garip Sahillioğlu and his wife Mine Sahillioğlu as the representatives of the naming sponsor, the 6,700-linear-meter giant vessel was named as “Troy Seaways” with an inspiration from the ancient city of Troy. In addition to being the largest cargo vessel to serve DFDS’ customers on routes between Turkey and the EU, the “Troy Seaways” is also a sister vessel of the “Ephesus Seaways".

Speaking at the ceremony held at the DFDS Pendik Port, Peder Gellert Pedersen, Executive Vice President of DFDS’ Shipping Division, said, “We are proud to have put yet another vessel into service. Equal in size to our “Ephesus Seaways’ vessel in Turkey, Troy Seaways boasts a loading capacity of 6,700 linear meters–equivalent to 450 trucks–and will make a significant contribution to the operations of logistics companies based in both Turkey and Europe.

Commenting on this recent development, Selçuk Boztepe, Senior Vice President of DFDS’ Mediterranean Business Unit, said:
“We brought the Mediterranean’s largest Ro-Ro vessel to Turkey: Ephesus Seaways. It went into service on DFDS’ existing route network on March 9, 2019. We hope that Troy Seaways, our new ship of the same size, will be beneficial for our country as it is put into service today. With Troy Seaways, we are proud to continue our tradition of naming our vessels after the UNESCO cultural heritage sites in Turkey. Troy Seaways will further strengthen DFDS's ferry operations on the Mediterranean route. At DFDS’ Mediterranean Business Unit, we hope that this significant investment will have a positive impact on DFDS customers’ operations and Turkey’s exports, just as in the legend of Troy.”

“Troy Seaways”, the second of the six custom mega freight ferry ships manufactured by China's Jinling Shipyard, will bring a breath of fresh air to Turkish exporters as they embark on a voyage with a Turkish crew from the DFDS Pendik Port, flying the Turkish Flag. “Troy Seaways", equal in size to “Ephesus Seaways” Ro-Ro vessel which joined the Turkish fleet in the spring, has energy-efficient capabilities just like its predecessor. “Troy Seaways” also includes a gas insulation system that reduces sulfur oxide emissions in accordance with the sulfur limitation regulation, which will be enforced worldwide in January 2020.
